Why be a Wedding Planner

The Australian Academy of Wedding and Event Planning

Do you want to be a Wedding Planner?

Would you like to run your own Wedding Planning Business?

Do you want to plan your own wedding to perfection?

If you answered YES to any of those questions then you need to enrol on a course.

Should I become a wedding planner?
A wedding requires many hours of detailed planning. The average wedding can take over 250 hours to plan, that's equal to six weeks full time work. That's quite a daunting task. Most couples lead very busy lives. Usually both parties work which leaves a few hours in the evening a weekends only to plan the biggest event of their lives. On top of this there is the stress of organising a wedding. If things go wrong the average bride isn't equipped to deal with these issues smoothly and calmly. Instead, utter panic sets in. Then of course there is the issue of money. The minute you mention the word wedding this gives every supplier carte blanche to charge double if not triple. And finally, there is the confidence required to put together an event of this size and scale. These facts are not alien to today's bride. They want a service that will help them:
  • Save time
  • Save money
  • Reduce stress
  • Give them expert direction
In 2005 there were 106,400 marriages registered in Australia, an increase of 960 when compared with 2004, and continuing the increase in the number of marriages since the low of 103,130 in 2001. Weddings is one of the biggest Industries in the world. In it's field it is second only to funerals. Everybody dies and 92% of the population get married at least once if not twice.
Despite the rising number of divorces in Australia it has not had a detrimental effect on the industry in fact quite the reverse. As you can see the figure of registered marriages is rising not falling.
In our time poor society, there has never been a better time to start a career in wedding planning. More and more brides-to-be are looking for help in organising their big day.

Will you be suited to wedding planning?
  • A strong desire to succeed
  • A passion for planning perfect parties and events
  • A genuine love for people
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • A high sense of integrity
  • A creative flair
Do you need to have a background in events?
No. However, a background in the hospitality industry is an advantage, or if you have owned or managed a business before this will also be a benefit. You will need high organisational skills, a large degree of creativity, an entrepreneurial spirit, the right attitude and a healthy dose of motivation won't go astray either. Be prepared to show how much passion you have for helping others, and be prepared the amount of drive and passion you have for the wedding industry.

Event planning and wedding coordination has become a valuable resource and a saving grace for busy brides and professionals, those with a short engagement, or those who envision a wildly fantastical wedding or event and don't know how to make it a reality.
